What Our Father Has Taught Us

Our mother was a bright red rose
he decided to pick
and take care of
by putting her in a glass vase
filled with her own tears.

Every morning he would
remove her thorns
and leave her undressed.

He would come back again
to fill up his lungs
with her scent
and tear up her petals
each night
until nothing was left.

That’s when he’d go
and wander around
to find other roses.

(Nothing I learn from him
except if
not being like him counts.)

(I learn to compare
everyone to him
just to be sure
that he’s the first
and the last
worst thing
that ever exists.)
